East and West : Bridging the Differences (ISHA Annual Conference, Pula 2011)
Dear ISHA friends,
we are happy and proud to announce that the topic of the ISHA Annual Conference 2011 in Pula will be East and West: Bridging the Differences. We were inspired by Croatian national history which shows that this region was always the borderline between confronting Eastern and Western world. Being aware of intolerance through history, one of historian roles today is also to erase prejudice and stereotypes that were built through centuries.
We will try to discover if a border between East and West really exist and what is collective perception of it. Also, we want to question the notion of such big differences between East and West and to find differences and similarities in their histories.
Through 12 different workshops, that will include all historical periods and different historiographical approaches, we will try to connect history students from whole Europe, hopefully, even wider.
The Participation fee will be 70 euros and it will cover all expenses (accomodation, food, museum tickets, day trip).
